What to scan before a trip
Registration
It's small and easy to lose track of. Scan it so the plate, VIN and expiration are searchable on your phone, which is handy when a rental counter or a repair shop asks for them.
Insurance card
Scan the front and the back in one session to keep them together. A ScanWow copy is a backup for your own reference. Proof rules vary by state, so check your state's rules and keep the original card too when you are unsure.
Title
Titles are large and easy to leave in a safe at home. A color scan of the front and back is a backup you can check for the VIN or a lien line. It does not replace the paper title your DMV or a buyer may still require.

Common questions
Is a scanned insurance card accepted as proof of insurance?
Laws vary by state. In many U.S. states a PDF or image on your phone is accepted as digital proof of insurance, and many insurers also offer a digital card in their own app. A ScanWow scan of a paper card is a backup copy for your own reference. A few states still expect a physical card. Check your state's current rules, and when in doubt carry both the scan and the original.
What vehicle documents should I scan before a trip?
Registration and the current insurance card are the ones people reach for most often at a stop or a rental desk. A title scan is a backup if the paper is at home. Repair and maintenance receipts help with warranty claims and a later sale. ScanWow keeps searchable copies; it does not replace originals your state or lender still requires.
